How the trials of life and a slow week for news gave birth to a memorable CD series:

The founder of "Conversations with my Dad," Donald M. Middleton, is a strong believer in the idea that history is shaped by the deeds of extraordinary men and women. This thesis, most memorably advanced by the British writer Thomas Carlyle, was well-suited to the American vision of this University of Detroit graduate.

"Conversations with my Dad" is insistent on the premise that people should take an honest look at the world surrounding them and create memorable forms of knowledge to enrich the lives of the young people they come in contact with each and every day. Although the Topic implies "Dad" it is built around the African parable, "It takes a village to raise a child therefore.” The CD's signature series tribute was not the result of high-level philosophizing: rather, it was driven by something far more important to Mr. Middleton’s historical deadline.

What are we fighting about?

Have you ever got into fight with someone and in the middle of the fight or after it was over, you asked yourself; what were we fighting about? I look at wars of the past and even the present and often wonder, what is that conflict all about? And was there something that could have been done to avoid all that blood shed. A couple of things that I have noticed is that at the end of all of the fighting, there is some sort of peace treaty or compromise that is signed. Another thing that I notice is… Continue

Self Respect and Personal Respect

In my journey through this life, I have often see people get into fights over what they precieved as a lack of respect of them by the other person. In many cases that may have been true, however sometime it may not have been true, maybe it was just the way the offended person thought that they were or were not being recieved. With that said, we should have an understanding that most of the respect that we get or don't get starts with us, and It's called SELF RESPECT. Let me lay out some quick ex… Continue

Help me avoid this STRESS!!!

Stress is a part of all of our daily lives, however what usually makes us or breaks us is how we deal with our stress. We may not realize it but sometimes the stress that we deal with daily can be transfered over to our children. I was watching the news one day and they were doing a story called "Is anybody listening?" It was about a group of children in a California school who were feeling stressed because they saw what their parents were going through in these tough econimic times. Their teach… Continue

Our Children, Our Money!

In today's tough economic world, it's more important than ever to help our children understand the value of the dollars that we earn to support them. In so many homes today, parents often take their hard earned income and turn it over to their children without providing them with the understanding of the power of currency, This can lead to some dissapointing realities in the future when our children finally grow up and begin to earn their own money. Let's look at some of the things that we as pa… Continue

How do we get them to listen early?

That is the question many of us parents today, and our own parents, parents have been asking for years. How do we get our children to listen at an early age, as opposed to later in life when they are asking themselve's why me, or what went wrong. As parents we often already know what went wrong, and that is that they didn't listen to someone that had more life experience than them, that someone being the parents. With that said lets get to the root of the question, how do we get them to listen?… Continue
